Posted in: Questions from InterWeave Blog Fans, Servant Leadership
I received a great question from a fellow blogger asking, “With so much rich content on your site, do you ever have trouble with copyright infringement?” My quick response to that question is - YES! Intellectual property is difficult to claim and even harder to manage. Most of the time when this happens, I am immediately flattered and thrilled that I have been quoted somewhere. The selfish part of me is then wondering if I am getting credit for this form of flattery known as plagarism. The entreprenurial part of me wants to ensure that my rights are protected and the giving part of me prays that someone benefited from seeing this information.
The important thing for me to do is to ensure that I am published in enough places that respect my copyright so that when someone sees a concept that is clearly mine, they will know that they have seen it first directly from InterWeave.
I also tend to rely on my faith and believe strongly that God has a plan for all of us. My faithful heart knows that I am giving for the purpose of giving and that I will receive what I am destined to receive. I also believe that in due time, the facts will be revealed that my work is being published unjustly.
In the meantime I keep writing and I keep focusing on my ultimate goal to positively influence others around me. I have certainly evolved into this way of thinking as this was not who I was or how I thought about my business when I first started 12 years ago. I believe that my serving heart continues to grow with time. How about yours?
MOMENT OF REFLECTION
What is your main goal- are you concerned with helping others or getting the credit for helping others? What matters most to you?
